The central portion of the pack's territory where the pack gathers, especially in the fall and winter months. The birthing den is also located here. Densely forested and siting on the slight slope of a lower mountain on the very edge of the Brook's Range, this area is more protected from the elements than the outskirts, and excluding the rendezvous site. The pack's scent is strong here, so not much large game wanders through the heart of the territory. Mainly birds, rabbits, squirrels, and possibly fox can be found. The pack will raise the young pups here, mark the area most heavily, bed down here in bad weather, and converge here between hunts. This portion of the territory will become almost completely empty once the pups have grown large enough to be moved to the rendezvous site.

A fierce wind whistled through the barren trees, screaming through the atmosphere, as if in anger. With its strength, it carried pearly hued snow. The small, scarce specks added to the already liberal amount of snow on the forest floor. The sun pushed against the low-hanging clouds, but they refused to budge. The only thing that the sun could manage was a harsh, dull, morning light. A single, female wolf, once asleep, now opened her eyes to the harsh, white light. Squinting, she scanned the bright area, lifting her head as she did so. Through the night, the shallow nest she had made in the snow had deepened and had nearly covered her. Her movement caused the accumulation to tumble away from her head and she quickly decided to stand. Slowly her body stretched out, her joints squeaking slightly. It had been a long, cold night.
Her salmon tongue shot out of her jaws and she licked her lips, clearing the remaining snow from her muzzle. Kevser looked about slowly, her molten pelt shifting easily with her movements. She couldn’t see any of the pack at her vantage point, but then again, they could all still be asleep, buried in the snow. The alpha took a moment then to think, for once the pack awoke, she would have no time. They would need to immediately begin a hunt, for their stomachs hadn’t been filled in over a half of a week ago.
It was the dead of winter now, complete with drab skies and nearly constant snow. The mountains that loomed near their territory was almost always hidden by such heavy precipitation. A small sigh escaped from her lungs and she glanced at the blemish-free, white ground about her. It had not been more than two years ago that she had lost her family, her former pack. Her first winter after, she was alone, and survived off of only carrion and rabbits. This was her first year with the new pack. They were a small group, and had only had a couple of months together thus far. There was a lot of things to get done, and she couldn’t help but to feel an urgency to get closer to the few in the group. She knew, without trust and respect, they could not really work together, not well. Sitting down, the female blinked slowly, and gritting her teeth as a particularly strong wind hit her in the face. She could feel that it would be a long day. No matter, a low howl still sounded from her throat, something so soft that it would not echo. She hoped that the pack was close enough to hear it. She did not want to alert any potential prey of their activities.

Cicuta lay curled in a ball beneath the surface, cocooned in a modest den of ice and snow that she had dug the night previous. Her flanks occasionally shuddered with cold, but the female otherwise appeared peaceful, having attained a decent night's rest for once. However, her brief lapse from reality is broken by a soft croon, a howl she recognized as Kevsers almost immediately. Her ears perk and swivel as if to locate the exact spot the howl had originated from, despite her still being somewhat underground. The petite female eventually blinks open her eyes, toffee colored gaze narrowing as she is met with a blank wall of white. With a sigh, she stands, the simply action causing her makeshift den to collapse around her, dusting her coat in a thick layer of snow that is soon blown away by the howling wind.
It was hell. The harsh winds penetrated even her thick pelt, leaving the small femme shivering in the wake of its wrath. Her eyes close for a moment, as though resigning herself to dealing with it, before they reopen and focus on Kevser. Picking her way through the snow over to the female, she regards her silently for a moment before stating with a sharp dose of sarcastic humor, "It's a beautiful day for a hunt, Kevser." She smiles, then; it had been but a quirk of her muzzle, a slight tilt of her lips, but it had been a smile all the same. Eyes having finally adjusted to the glare of sunlight on snow, she takes stock of her surroundings, noting almost disappointedly that no, they had not changed from the barren snowfields that they had been when she had fallen asleep. "Though I worry that all this wind will blow our scent to any prey out there." Her brows furrow for a moment as she sits down, tail curled haphazardly about her paws as she tilts her head, searching for any telltale signs of Atlas.

Was it time already? It seemed like he'd just finished burying himself in the hardened rain only moments ago... This wasn't actually true. In fact, the entire night was spent trying to gain comfort--mostly from lack of warmth. He swore that all the surrounding environment focused on doing was making his and every other life form's daily (and nightly) life miserable. Of course, cursing nature for being nature was a frivolous, and not to mention, childish thing to do. No one controlled nature and no one ever would. He opened his eyes with a light flutter, squinting them back shut immediately when the light hit them. One would think the clouds would at least weaken the extremity of the sun, but this wasn't the case. No. In fact, the clouds seemed to only intensify the intensity.
Generally, Atlas was a lighthearted, optimistic, and overall, happy being. However, the lack of sleep he'd suffered as of late had really begun to taint and thwart his attitude. Of course, his exterior would never display anything but his same old blithe self. With no more thought about the current misfortunes, he stood from his small burrow in the white ground. Snow clung to his fur, and from what he could tell, had frozen to his nose. He shook, freeing his coat of the small flakes. Wind carried them off, and in all honesty, created a stunning visual. They twirled about, eventually finding a place to join the rest of the flakes. He yawned, releasing a puff of white, then began padding to Kevser and Cicuta. His paws dragged lazily on the ground, obstructing the once, impeccable flatness of the snow. He really did need proper rest.
"Wonderful day, is it not?" His voice carried on a slight hint of sarcasm. He grinned after speaking. His belly beckoned for food with a small and inaudible growl. If it weren't for his being canine, starvation would be a much more prevalent threat. He made the whole not eating thing a sort of a game. For him, the longest period without food had been a long and grueling spell of sixteen days. Right after his family had been slaughtered. He didn't ever think he'd go that long without eating again. It was, after all, a boast-worthy feat.

The alpha scanned the ground for a moment, and thought for a second that there would be no movement, that perhaps she hadn’t been heard. But finally, a small shift in the snow produced Cicuta, one of the few members in Kevser’s very petite pack. Kevser acknowledged her pack mate’s approach with a small wag of her raised tail. Her head was held high, her eyes, bright. When Cicuta was close enough, the alpha countered her sarcasm and smile with one of her own grins and a short lunge forward. The molten female arched her back and jumped towards the side of the hunter, slamming her paws into the snow next to the female. Kevser snorted and jammed her muzzle to the top of Cicuta’s scruff. It was a playful move, but it leaked dominance. Kevser held no aggression, for her teeth were covered and her hackles were flat. She hovered and waited to see if the lighter hued female would react, all the while, her eye sparkling.
Another shift in the snow revealed Atlas, their remaining member. The alpha looked over Cicuta’s scruff towards Atlas, her ears highly perked, hinting to the high amount of energy that burned in the she-wolf’s gut. “It is!” Kevser crowed. As if in an answer, a seriously harsh breeze pushed at the she wolf’s body, causing her ears to tuck and her eyes to squint. Snow travelled with the rush and cut under the she-wolf’s outer pelt. A large puff of vapor exited her nostrils, and she glanced at the other two wolves, her expression slightly more somber. “We will just need to go downwind of anything we spot.” Her eyes looked over towards the foothills. “Let’s get going. It will take us a while to reach any sort of herd.” She paused and then continued. “Look for anything- if all we get is a rabbit or a fox, then it will be better than nothing.” She pivoted and began trotting away from their normal sleeping area, weaving through the trees with some level of difficulty. Her legs pumped against the tall, chilled drifts, her shoulder pulling her through the thick piles. After only a few moments, her tongue fell out of her mouth and she began to pant, her body heating up easily after some exertion. It was then that Kevser paused to wait for the other to catch up. Especially in this type of weather, it was important to keep everyone in sight.

The winds howled harmoniously about the bland terrain of hidden colors, tree's wearing coats of huddling white speckles whilst the ground was blanketed by thick sheets of compacted snow. It was the harshest season any creature could attempt to survive, and in the heart of their home it was hard to abandon such place just to find something warmer. Below small collection of ivory flecks, motion could barely be seen in center of open terrain, light breathing heaving hefty coverage up and down whilst sighting of ebony ear-tips protruded surface and twitched in irritation to any particles that may have drifted within the open cavities.
After a short moment of gentle breathing, visible ears coming alive with rotating motions before thick pile of snow sudden began cracking and lifted slowly from its evened layering. Contrasting tones of oaken brown visage emerging as clumps of chilled seasons dust fell only to blend back within its kin of frost. Nasal passages that seemed to hold leather like appearance heaved to and fro at the biting air, whilst sights of gentle tawny tinge flickered alive and immediately scanned all visible terrain; squinting quickly from the unexpected light of clouded day dawning upon everything about. He could hear faint howl, one of familiarity riding upon that heavy gust that bashed into almost every living thing like a brick to the chest. Though if it wasn't for the fact he was practically chilled to the bone already, it would of caused him to loose breath for a short moment.
As he listened to this soft call, he drew himself to extend forelimbs before his chest, hauling him up as hind legs cracked from strain of being coiled so tight over-night. Tension within his spine, chest and forelimbs causing him to dip down once more, chest lowering almost to the point of touching the terrain below while forelimbs extended further forward and rump remained standing tall. Dark muzzle of almost midnight black parted to bare hidden ivories within and pale oral flesh that coiled as gentle whined yawn emerged, the creaking of everything releasing throughout form causing great relief as brute once more stood tall.
Finally refocusing upon target of interest, Gethyn would find himself picking up to an immediate trot-like pace. Shoulders rolling as the blended outlines of chocolate, charcoal and dusty hued pelt bounced in rhythm with muscles hidden below. Bulky build heading in direct B-line to gathering of few wolves he'd spent the past few months integrating with. Not really blending in with his surroundings, large male found himself slowly coming to halt as fellow blurs of fur into sight. His pace picking up once more as he allowed himself to listen to the instigated conversation between alpha and comrade hunters.
"Good morning," the lulled tone of still waking Gethyn passed lips to all those before him. Ashen tipped tail lowly hanging below form as portion of limbs sunk within the uncaring cruelness of frozen particles below. Eyes casting over entirety of pack as he offered each one a gentle cant of head as extra acknowledgement before settling upon leading she-wolf, though casting down slightly in respect. "I'd say a hunt sounds fairly acceptable for this lovely weather," he'd allow to reverberate through maw in joking manner, feeling of harsh colliding winds provided more difficulty to the idea of any success; though at this rate any possible chance was suited.
His own abdomen tucked in tightly, uneasy feel of empty cavity churned with every mention of food and brought him to flinch under attacks of winters worst. Squinted eyes of creamy coloring followed figure of brighter pelted Alpha female before his muscles began working to move semi-stiffened limbs in up-beat pace to keep up with the others. He wasn't full of speed, but he could definitely go at a moderate pace for a hefty distance when it came to food and other major priorities, after all he seemed to be built as an anchor in a hunt, dragging down large prey once it was slowed enough for him to keep up with and latched onto. The thought of such scene producing pooled saliva within drooped jowls and causing further twisting of stomach as he shook nape and returned to focusing on following the leader.

Cicuta had perked her ears and swiveled her head upon her packmate's appearance from the snow, though her attention is again captured by Kevser as she proceeds to slam her paws down and shove her muzzle into the fur of the smaller she-wolf's neck. Responding in turn, she twists and delivers a sharp but decidedly playful nip to the underside of the Alphess' jaw, ears angling to pin back against her head in deference even as she does so. Tail giving three short wags, she moves out of Kevser's grasp, shaking her body from tail to neck to dislodge the fine dusting of snow that had accumulated; if some of it hit Kevser, well, it certainly wasn't purposeful. Not at all.
"Yes, yes." They all knew the drill by now, especially with hunger carving pits into their bellies; any and all food was acceptable nowadays. Watching her Alpha trudge through the snow for a moment, and dreading the humiliation on her part that would surely come when she tried to follow - its all the way up to her shoulders. Why. Just...why. - she breaths a resigned sigh before following. As predicted, her short stature meant that the thick drifts of white reached her neck rather than her shoulders or chest like her companions, which meant that even if she did have the pure strength to shoulder her way through that much snow - she didn't, dammit - it would just pile up in front of her before inevitably toppling over onto the top of her head, effectively burying her (it had happened before, when the snow wasn't that thick. She hadn't lived it down for days). Thusly, rather than trudging as her companions did, her gait is an odd mix between trying to widen the spread of her toes so that she didn't sink into the snow - which worked for all of thirty seconds before she would begin to fall in - and hopping. The two would vary, but the result was that she appeared fairly ridiculous, and it was clear from her moderately thunderous expression that she was fervently wishing for shallower snow. And something to sink her teeth into. As she catches up to walk - erm, tiptoe/hop - beside Gethyn, the fact that he was managing just fine and still maintaining some semblance of grace and dignity only serves to further stoke her temper. Adding his damnably long legs to the list of things she was currently cursing - at this point the language echoing in her mind was very colorful and, in her humble opinion, creative - she shoots him a sour glare that still managed to radiate exasperated resignation and that was wholly ineffective due to the fact that she sent it in the midst of hopping. "Not. A. Word." She hisses, again more exasperated than truly resentful. Eventually, to the female's great relief, the snow shallows enough to where she can walks again. Carefully gathering up the remains of her dignity, she tucks the fragile pieces away to examine later as she focuses on the task at hand. Muzzle raised just so, her nostrils flare as she attempts to pick up even the faintest hint of prey, the short whiskers on her snout quivering slightly as she does so. She didn't pick anything up - predictable, as they weren't quite near the hunting grounds yet - but she doesn't become disheartened, as she didn't actually expect prey to be so near the resting grounds of wolves. A snort escapes her, maw parting as short pants are released in quick succession, breath turning to mist in the chilled air. A lovely morning, indeed. The wind whips at her fur, batters her face; her eyes water just enough to be uncomfortable, and a shudder racks her form in a futile try for warmth. We'd better get some prey out of this. She trudges on.

The idea of devouring a fox didn't quite sit well with the tawny wolf. Not too long ago, he'd paired with a silver/grey fox named Maximillian. Now, they couldn't communicate, so Atlas decidedly named him that and it stuck. It was nice to have a companion, and the little white fox did the job very well. Now thinking about it, he began to miss the little bugger. He didn't know what exactly happened to him, but one morning, he woke and his small vulpine friend was gone. He waited for two or three days, but Maximillian never returned. His hope was that he'd found a mate and they made off together, but something told him the loss involved something more horrific.
In better light, Atlas may have a meal in a few hours. Preferably non-canine, but if that's all they found, he would be thankful and put the meat to good use. As he pushed through the frigid and deep snow, his black paw pads became numb, in addition, his legs developed the same lack of feeling. Bending them was tough. He felt stiff, like his body was a tree and his appendages were branches. In only moments of walking, however, the blood in his body began rushing and warmth soon radiated from his form.

The alpha watched as their small group gathered and began to move. Cicuta, the poor thing, was struggling terribly through the first few drifts, a scene that didn’t draw any sort of smile across the alpha’s muzzle. The alpha might have been sarcastic with her first few statements, but the weather was hardly a joking manner when it came down to it. It was harsh and deadly. One wrong move could lead the group into any sort of disaster. Kevser watched as the males plowed through with ease and made a quick decision. A more serious expression had fallen on the molten hued she wolf as she began to backtrack, placing her nicely sized paws back into her own prints. She neared the moving pack and assessed them for a moment through the near blinding snow. Her eyes were in a squint, her ears completely pinned to prevent the overwhelming wind from filling her ear canals. They were all healthy for today, a lucky thing. The alpha turned to Cicuta and spoke matter-of-factly, in a way that suggested that the statement was an order. Kevser did not show any physical dominance traits, for her tone was enough. Not stern, but steady. “Cicuta, you’re leading the hunt. Boys, follow her lead.” Kevser continued to backtrack, past the group and turned back around. She was now going to be the tail end of this journey. There was a particular method to her apparent madness. Cicuta was going to struggle through the deep stuff, inevitably slowing in some sections. The alpha was not about to lose one of her own in the storm. She was not about to leave anyone behind. The alpha grit her teeth as a memory tore into her brain, one of the sea and skin and blood. That was the past now, she reminded herself, though it still insistently haunted her. To cover her momentary lapse, Kevser curtly nodded, signaling the pack to move forward. At the moment, there were no Betas in the pack, only Kevser as the head. The pack was not large enough; too much leadership would be overbearing towards the remaining members. So, Kevser’s delegation for Cicuta to lead was not one of rank, but of safety. They would all move as fast as their slowest member, due to the conditions, and not faster. And plus, Cicuta was a quality hunter. As were the others, so she hoped they would not take offense. Explaining this whole thinking process to the group seemed vain to Kevser, for they needed to get moving if they were to find anything. Her expression, complete with strong sharp eyes and clamped jaws, showed that she was in no mood to answer questions at the moment. It was time to focus. Tag: Gethyn Atlas CicutaOOC: Alrighty Cicuta, you’re officially leading the hunt. You can take the pack anywhere you want to go (you can choose any territory except for the Inuit Base camp and village.) If you decide on a large prey, let me know, because we need the Nature account to roleplay any large prey.

When it seemed like the entirety of small pack began moving in quickest manner possible, the large form of seemingly darkest presented wolf plowed through what snow he could. A decent length of his limbs sinking deeply through some sections as his chest helped guide him forward by mostly sheer bulk. Bright hues of shifting beige trailing after the leading physique of Alpha Kevser. This though, did not last, his eyes eventually danced across the white canvas of terrain about them, quickly falling to land upon petite feminine canine bunny hopping as it'd seem through some of the snow. This barely brought muse to the brute as he merely watched for a moment, " You can," his words suddenly cutting off. ' You can walk behind me,' he'd mentally finish the sentence in his head, he was only going to offer this since, well, the snow was already compacted within the tunnels his legs created. Meaning the younger female may of been able to walk a bit better. But, all too soon, the sound of backtracking leader re-caught his attention, that is why he cut off his words in the first place. As he halted in his tracks, his own ears pinned and blended with the chocolate mix licorice black fur being ruffled upon his skull. The sounds the current howl of wind was producing was surely enough to cause anyone to want to cover there ears and if it were possible, probably their nose too with the realization his was indeed going numb. Broad paws allowed webbed toes to spread as he stood in awkward manner, limbs splayed as if holding a tower within hefty volume of snow below, though this stance meant he could hold himself somewhat stable without sinking too much further. When the alpha spoke, he'd shoot his sights to rest upon the new hunting group leader, " I won't argue with that," was all he'd manage after that. He could visibly see why the alpha done it, even he knew that if they went further on without keeping even pace someone would surely fall behind, especially someone having somewhat of great difficulty walking properly. Though it almost surprised him as the ashen topped figure of multi-hued female continued past them and settled in the rear of the group, baffled for a moment as he just stared in her direction through squinted visionaries. Partially parting oaken brown jowls for short moment, as if to speak; brute would just as quickly close them. The ivories within gently grinding together as he spotted that look Kevser held, one that practically screamed she wasn't interested in questions. Looking back to that of smaller female he'd nod, offering silent signal that meant he was ready to follow when she was ready to continue. Thickness of scruff eventually rocking upon nape as his entire cranium dipped. Large form quickly offering short throw of pelt twice in either direction, clearing off fallen snow that would surely re-find its way upon him in the near future. "You can-" She glances towards Gethyn, ears swiveling atop her head as if to catch the traces of his voice upon the wind. Before he can finish, however, Kevser speaks, informing her that she would be leading the hunt. Her jaw clenches; she was no fool. She knew it was a position given to her due to her shortcomings - quite literally, in fact. If she were to remain behind, she would fall behind, and she was aware that this would hinder her pack more than if she were to take the lead. Thusly, she swallows her slight chagrin and responds with a curt nod, expression cool as Kevser passes her to take up a position in the rear. A short sigh passes her black lips, and as she herself moves to the foremost position, Cicuta shoots Gethyn a mildly grateful look that lasts all of a moment before it is gone.
Now at the front, she forces her way steadily onwards, eyes half lidded in an attempt to peer through the flurries of snow. "We'll be going to Lake Hreint." She calls, voice pitched so that her packmates could hear. "It's the best place for game right now." Traveling further than the lake in this weather would cost a significant amount of energy, something that could not be afforded as of now. Steps leaving deep tracks in the earth, they are soon swept over by the wind, vanished without a trace within moments of her passing. She could see the logic in placing her at the front, indeed; being the lightest in pallor as well as the slowest in deep snow meant that her losing her way or the pack losing her was a very real possibility. Didn't mean she had to like it, though; Cicuta soon fervently promises to herself that if she were to lead a hunt again, that it would be due to skill rather than convenience. Using this thought to steel her mind, she allows her paws to carry her towards the lake.
